The only wireless providers that have bet on WiMax in the US are Sprint and Clearwire. The two firms are rolling 4G WiMax networks out to people around the country as fast as they can. The goal is to beat LTE to market in as many areas as possible to win early adopters.

Clearwire has announced that is now offering 4G service in Houston, Texas. The new coverage extends over a large region of the area from Kingwood to Katy, Richmond to Rosenburg, and Alvin. The Clear Lake area is also covered by the new 4G service.

In all Clearwire has enabled 4G in the Houston area covering 1900 square miles and more than 4 million people. That is many folks who can now get three to 6mpbs mobile data speeds with bursts faster than 10mbps.
