Once in a great while, a game comes along that shatters all pre-conceived notions of 'play' and wraps us up in a wholly new world. Plants vs. Zombies is not that game, but it's a hell of a lot of fun anyway. PopCap, the studio that made it, has just announced the launch of their new HD app for the iPad. This new version takes advantage of the iPad's massive screen and enhanced visual options.

Plants vs. Zombies HD has 50 levels of Adventure and QuickPlay modes, plus the Survival mode from the original game. There are four new achievements, plus 18 new mini-games (including the exclusive 'Buttered Popcorn' game). New multitouch controls allow you to select up to 11 zombies at a time to be buttered up and shot with cob cannons.

You can download Plants vs. Zombies for the iPad now. This new version will set you back $9.99. Go here for our review of the iPhone app.
