Dual Core Atom processors will soon be a reality. Fudzilla reports that these new chips are on Intel's docket and may be released earlier this year. These new processors will be clocked at 1.50 GHz per core. It is made using the 45nm process and has a TDP of 8.5W. Reports indicate that this dual-core processor will only have a TDP 20% higher than the current highest clocked single-core Atom processor (the N475).

This is very good news. It means that Intel is on the brink of delivering a (relatively) powerful multi-tasking processor that drains very little power. Netbooks with a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor will be much more versatile, and tablets that pack this new Atom would be able to blow the iPad out of the water.
