When the story first broke that the next generation iPhone had been lost (and found!) in a California bar, many of us expected that a lawsuit-happy Apple would lash out at the person(s) responsible for spilling their secrets. Instead, they sent a very polite letter to Gizmodo.

In it, they ask Gizmodo to return “a device that belongs to Apple”, which is pretty clear confirmation that this device IS a prototype iPhone. This is great news for everyone. Gizmodo's $5,000 gamble has paid off in spades, and no one is getting sued! Yet! Hopefully Gray Powell will keep his job and we can have a truly happy ending.
