WD makes a ton of different models of external storage devices for storing all manner of data. Many people use external HDDs to store things like their digital photos to protect them in the event of a PC crash.

The problem with moving the photos over to an external HDD for some users is then you have to go to the computer to see your photos. Western Digital has announced a new app for the iPhone and iPod touch that allows the user to view photos stored on its My Book world Edition and WD ShareSpace network HDDs.

The app lets the user log into the WD drive from anywhere in the world and view the photos stored on the drive. The app only lets the user into their personal folder on the HDD so no one can see images they aren’t authorized to view. The app is free and users have to register for the WD MioNet service to use the app.
