The HP Slate is dead! Long live the HP Hurricane! While HP's first plans for tablet dominance seem to have fallen through, their acquisition of Palm has lead to intense speculation that webOS might be making an appearance on a revamped Slate. Examiner.com reports that an “insider” at HP has informed them that the codename for this product is the HP Hurricane.

The Hurricane could see a release in Q3 of this year, right in time for the holiday season. The original Slate was...erm...slated for a summer launch, but HP wisely made the decision to pull it due to reports of poor performance. While the Slate earned kudos for its design and fantastic UI, the Atom processor (combined with Win 7) was far too slow. The battery life, clocked at a mere 6 hours, was not nearly enough to compete with the iPad.
