I can personally attest to the fact that my iPad has an issue with WiFi networks at times. The WiFi signal will drop or be much weaker on the iPad than on my iPhone in the same room.

Apple has stated that it will fix the WiFi issues with the popular tablets in a future firmware update. In the mean time, Apple suggests moving from WPA to WPA2 encryption and renewing the IP address for those having WiFi issues.

Apple still maintains that the issue affects a small number of iPad users. Exactly when a fix for the issue will land is unknown at this time.
