The HTC Evo 4G from Sprint is the first 4G handset in the United States and will start shipping on June 4th. We published our HTC Evo 4G hands-on review last week. Walt Mossberg already tested the HTC Evo 4G in the wild and published his review.

The HTC Evo 4G has fast download speeds, but Walt Mossberg did not reach the advertised speeds. Still, it is the fastest phone available right now if you actually are in a city with Sprint 4G coverage. When 4G is turned on the battery of the HTC Evo 4G runs out really fast.

Sprint is apparently thinking about advising HTC Evo 4G customers to turn off 4G when they do not need it, to conserve battery life.
