By this time next year, the OS market could be in a wildly different place than it is right now. Google's Chrome OS is going to launch late this Fall. Reuters reports that a “top executive” confirmed this on Wednesday at the Computex show.

The head of the Chrome project reiterated that Chrome will be designed “initially” to work on laptops. He stated that “millions of applications” already work on the new operating system. Facebook and Gmail and Twitter already work on Chrome the browser. A new app will not be required to make them work on Chrome the OS.
