At a Q&A session after the D8 conference, Steve Jobs made a cryptic remark that may hint at a second US carrier for the iPhone. Engadget reports that, when asked if there would be advantages to deploying the iPhone on another carrier, Jobs responded with a weighty, “There might be.”

When asked about AT&T's network problems, Jobs was merciless. “I wish they were improving faster” and, “...things get worse before they get better. If you believe that, things should be getting a lot better soon!”

He appended this by stating that he has “been told” that “a lot of places” will get better by the end of the summer. And if they don't?

“Then they won't.” says Jobs.
