Sprint announced last weekend that the HTC EVO 4G broke their sales record. Sprint has now updated the initial press-release with much lower numbers. Reuters carries the update and the whole thing is a bit embarrassing for Sprint.

Initially Sprint said that the total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on launch day was three times the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined.

The new statements says: The total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on launch day was in line with the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined.

Despite the new lower sales numbers for the HTC Evo 4G it is apparently sold out. See also our comparison of the HTC Evo 4G with the upcoming iPhone 4G from an Evo owner.
