You don’t have to be a genius to figure out that Blockbuster is nowhere near as popular and successful as it once was. Blockbuster was the largest movie rental chain around and many cities had multiple locations.

Today many of those locations are closed and Blockbuster is not able to face the competition from companies like Netflix and Redbox. Analyst Douglas McIntyre from 24/7 Wall St. believes that Blockbuster could fail completely by next year.

Blockbuster is also reportedly considering a Chapter 11 filing to eliminate debt in an effort to stay afloat. If the company fails, I would imagine the branded kiosks, owned by another company, and its streaming business would continue.
