You know what's funny? If you have a device that is supposed to provide peace of mind so that you'll never lose any of your files, it kind of has to be able to work.
Apple has admitted that some of its Time Capsule units have stopped working because of faulty design. To provide some restitution for users, Apple has said that the problem is fixable, and those affected can get their unit fixed or replaced at no charge.

Affected are Time Capsule devices with serial numbers that range from XX807XXXXXX - XX814XXXXXX. "If your Time Capsule falls within serial number range above and it does not power on or shuts down unexpectedly after starting up, it may be eligible for repair or replacement," said Apple on its Web site.

The serial numbers correspon to units sold beterrn February 2008 and June 2008, according to Apple.

The problem for those affected is that the device simply no longer powers on. Therefore it cannot sync to the computer to back up data, and the data it has already stored is no longer accessible.

Those with a faulty unit, like this reporter, are encouraged to go to their local Apple Store or authorized Apple service location, or to call Apple customer care.
