I have talked on several occasions about Ford's Sync hands free and voice control system that is offered in some of its vehicles. Ford and Nuance announced today that a new system called MyFord Touch that will launch first this year on the 2011 Ford Edge.

This system is a newer version of the Sync voice activated system and will respond to 100 times more commands than the original Sync system. One key improvement that I have long wished for is more direct first level commands.

On the current Sync system, you have to push the voice button, say phone, and then say who you want to call. The new system will let you just press the voice button and say who you want to call. There will be more navigation features including direct tuning radio stations and more. People will also be able to control the cooling system with command like warmer or colder. Apparently, the new features will not be offered as an update for existing Sync vehicles.
