What was to be one of the biggest holiday hits is now being pushed back to next year, as Socom 4 developers are unable to wrap up the project in time.
Zipper Interactive, the development studio behind the Socom series, said that the company "doesn't want to take any shortcuts" in the game, and it would rather take extra time to "deliver the best and most immersive Socom game we possibly can."

It is a definite setback for fans of the series, as well as for the PS3. Socom 4 was expected to be potentially the biggest exclusive game for the system for the big holiday season.

Other titles like Gran Turismo 5 and LittleBigPlanet 2 will still be available for Christmas time, though, so it's not a complete sob story for the PS3's holiday outlook. And of course the PlayStation Move will also be hitting stores soon as well.

Zipper did not specify a new release date. It simply noted that Socom 4 will not be available this year.
