Chevrolet is talking about the slick air shutter system that it uses on the Cruze to help the little car get fuel economy as high at 40mpg. The active shutter system is an aerodynamic setup that allows the Cruze to achieve fuel economy like a hybrid without the cost of a hybrid system.

The air shutter system has sensors that feel and sent wind conditions. The sensors then active electric motors that open and close the shutters on the car to reduce drag at high speeds and improve cooling when open at low speed.

The air shutter system is claimed to add half a mile per gallon to the bottom line in combined city and highway driving with the car. That is an impressive gain just by controlling airflow.
