New man takes the helm of Bieber biopic

After the original director for the 3D documentary about Justin Bieber dropped out of the project (bravo!), there's now officially a new director - Jon Chu, the guy behind the currently-playing 3D film Step Up 3D.

Chu will step into the movie mid-production, as very preliminary parts of the film have already been completed. Some behind-the-scenes and in-concert footage is being worked on in Nashville, where Bieber is in the middle of a tour. 3D camera crews, and now Chu, will continue to follow around the 16-year-old kid throughout his tour.

I actually just watched Step Up 3D last night and although the story is very corny and dumb, the 3D was done very well. At some points during the dance numbers it almost felt as though I was watching a live concert.

Although I still find it ridiculous that anyone would want to watch, let alone make, a documentary film about a person who is isn't even old enough to have graduated high school, I think Chu is a very good pick for someone who can at least make it a compelling 3D experience. You know, for those people who actually care about Justin Bieber.
