I like the idea of watching 3D content in my home. However, I refuse to buy a 3D TV for now because they all need active glasses and the only reason for manufacturers to use active glasses is to drive the cost up for consumers. I will hold out until you can watch without needing glasses at all.

That day may be coming sooner than I think with reports that Toshiba is set to bring a new 3D TV to market in time for Christmas this year that doesn't need 3D glasses (AFP). The new set is said to offer good viewing angles and the lack of needing 3D glasses will make viewing much more comfortable.

Full details of the sets are unknown. What we do know is that there will be three models, likely the only difference will be screen size. The sets will reportedly cost "several thousand dollars" according to an AFP source.
