A new rumor sees newspaper subscriptions on the iPad around the corner.

The newspaper and magazine publishers still have problems to implement their complete business model in the digital eco system of the Apple iPad. Last month Apple enabled People magazine to give their subscribers the iPad editions for free. The next thing is to allow publishers to sell subscriptions for their iPad editions.

The MercuryNews has a report that says Apple is expected to announce a new subscription plan for newspapers soon.

Apple would allow publishers to gain access to the customer data on iTunes to manage it in their circulation databases. Obviously this is where the rubber meets the road and the reason why Apple did not roll out a subscription plan yet.
