Apple bought Swedish Face Recognition Company Polar Rose

Norwegian Mac site reports about an unannounced Apple aquisition.

Norwegian Mac1 (via 9to5 Mac) reports that Apple bought a Swedish software developer called Polar Rose. According to the Polar Rose site their Face Recognition software excel in algorithm benchmarks for uncontrolled Web-images and consumer photos. Polar Rose was offering a free face-tagging service which the closed down two weeks ago supporting the acquisition report.

Below you can see a pretty neat video that demonstrates a prototype app from Polar Rose. Where Apple is going to use the Polar Rose technology is not clear yet. Apple has a history of not detailing most of their acquisitions.
