FCC opens new spectrum for faster and better Wi-Fi.

The FCC opens new spectrum for so called Super Wi-Fi. The currently empty airwaves have been freed up during the digital television transition in 2009. The new frequencies allow signals to travel faster, penetrate walls more easily and cover larger geographical areas than current spectrum used for WiFi according to Reuters.

We still have to wait now for close to two years for manufacturers to release Super Wi-Fi devices. Wi-Fi is really ready for some major improvements. I currently operate three Wi-Fi hotspots in my home to get decent coverage in most areas. It would be great to just operate one Super Wi-Fi hotspot that covers my two story house. The trend for connected devices is is also wireless. Blu-ray players, Printers, smartphones, etc. everything connects via Wi-Fi to the web.
