Yay toys

Sega hasn't usually pimped out its Sonic games with special or limited edition packaging, but that's going to change with the release of Sonic Colors, which the publisher says is one of its best Sonic titles ever.

There are many eyes on Sonic Colors, which is being hyped up more than any of the recent games with the blue hedgehog. It's already been met with pre-order bonuses, which has almost never been seen with the Sonic series.

Now it's getting a special edition, which includes a limited-edition Sonic the Hedgehog figurine as well as three Wisps. Wisps are little alien creatures that are central to the plot of Sonic Colors and their colorful nature also gives the game its namesake.

The special edition has only officially been announced for PAL territories (Europe and Australia) but we'd certainly like to see it in the states as well.

Sonic needs to become relevant, in a big way. After an onslaught of mediocre games did unmanageable damage to the franchise, Sega has been scrambling to bring back the magic that once sparkled around Sonic. It's doing that with Sonic 4, a step back to classic old-school Sonic gameplay, and with Sonic Colors.

The game is coming out for the Wii and DS.
