A saw is a breakthrough product?

Popular Mechanics is one of the magazines that many geeks and fans of tech tend to subscribe to. The publication has unveiled its picks for Breakthrough Tech Awards for 2010. PM figures that these products are the ones that moved society forward this year.

The picks include the Chevy Volt, Nissan Leaf, Sony Alpha NEX-5 camera, Trane ComfortLink II thermostat, Stihl HAS 65 Cordless Hedge Trimmer, the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, Bosch Axial-Glide miter saw, DeLorme Earthmate PN-60W, GoPoint Technology GL1 and App, and the Sprint EVO 4G smartphone. I can see some of those being important, but some of the pics really made me wonder how they changed society.

I mean how a hedge trimmer or a saw could really change society. I can see the Volt and Leaf for sure. I guess the saw and the trimmer might be more important to me if I were a carpenter that landscapes on the side.
