Epson shows off new pro printer

Epson is mostly known for its line of consumer printers that tend to max out cost wise in the $500 range. The company also makes a full line of professional grade printers for making all sorts of large format prints for ads and other uses.

Epson has unveiled its new high-end printer called the Stylus Pro 4900. The printer starts at $2495 and uses ink jet technology. With ink cartridges for the consumer printers at about $30 each, I would hate to know what the ink for this thing costs. The printer uses Epson UltraChrome HDR Ink technology for a wide color gamut. The print heads have ten channels for accuracy.

Other features include AccuPhoto HDR screening technology and it has a max resolution of 2880 x 1440. It also has automatic print head alignment. The thing can print on any paper up to 17-inches wide. Epson says the printer will ship in Q1 2011.
