FLO TV Sales Halted by Qualcomm

Sucks to have spent money on a FLO TV system for your car right about now

If you have purchased the FLO TV system in a new car or as a system that you have installed at a stereo shop or even in a portable device, you have reason to be mad right now. Qualcomm has announced that it has been "examining" strategic opportunities for FLO TV. Apparently, those opportunities haven't looked good.

Qualcomm is stopping the direct customer sales of new devices. While you can't buy new devices, Qualcomm figures it will be able to continue to support the network so existing subscribers can continue to use the service until the spring of 2011.

After that date, the service will apparently no longer be offered. FLO TV service offered through wireless carriers will not be affected. I would be pretty pissed right now if I had spent hundreds of dollars on FLO TV for my car or had just bought one of the FLO TV portable DVD players on the market.
