There is a rumor that another new design aspect of the iPhone 4 is problematic. The new antenna design lead to Antenna gate and to a lot of work for the Apple PR team and iPhone 4 onwers got free bumpers for a while. Now gdgt has a report that points the finger at breaking glass. The iPhone front and back have a glass surface. Apparently Slide-on iPhone cases can cause scratches that lead to breakage of the glass. The scratches come from particles that get cought between the case and the iPhone 4 glass surface. I guess you should not take your iPhone 4 and slide-on case to the beach. The sand can sure scratch the glass.

Apparently Apple is quietly investigating the issue and has stopped selling 3rd-party iPhone 4 cases in stores.

Yet another issue Apple designers have to fix in the iPhone 5 coming 2011.
