Samsung Galaxy Tab - November 14, $599: Rumor

Sticker shock confirmed

Samsung's upcoming iPad killer is apparently not going to kill anything based on price. It'll apparently be priced at $599, on par with the expensive versions of the bigger, more popular iPad.

However, that price will be able to shrink down if you sign a service contract with Sprint. That's according to a report from Boy Genius Report, which cites one of its "Sprint sources" as providing the details.

Samsung has said it plans to bring the Galaxy Tab to every major mobile carrier - T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. It's obviously still unclear what the other providers plan to do with subsidized prices.

However, the iPad didn't bother with subsidies at all, mainly because AT&T still had a lock on the device's exclusivity. There was no reason to offer a competitive price.

So even though the Galaxy Tab is more expensive than some consumers would have liked, by offering it up to every mobile provider, their subsidies will offer price competition which is a win for consumers.

Of course, you then need to lock into a two-year service agreement.
