Microsoft just officially launched Windows Phone 7.

If you have just watched the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 launch your ears are surely still ringing with the slogan "Smart Design". Joe Belfiore and Ballmer used the slogan over and over again. This reminded me immediately of the Apple iPad launch event. There Steve Jobs described every feature as magic or magical. For Microsoft each Windows Phone 7 feature is smart design.

The Windows Phone 7 demonstration was actually quite impressive. Microsoft would do good to let the designers of Windows Phone 7 design Windows 8. Of course demos are always shiny. The rubber meets the road when the first Windows Phone 7 devices are in reviewers and users hands. With some features I have the feeling that they will not scale well. In any case, the final verdict on Windows Phone 7 will come in reviews and user acceptance.

For Apple the iPad turned into magical sales. It remains to be seen if the smart design in the Windows Phone 7 also leads to sales.
