January is Tablet Month

To all the huddled masses out there yearning for an open-source alternative to the iPad, I bring you hope. Digitimes reports that Google has notified their partners that Android 3.0 will soon be ready for engineer sample tablets. Those samples will hit in November.

Acer, Asustek and MSI will all launch tablets in January, 2011 at CES. Samsung will show off a 3.0 packing Galaxy Tab, and HTC and Motorola both have slates to show as well. Sources in the industry report that the cost for using Windows 7 on a tablet is around $50-60, while the cost for Android is a mere $10 (if you want to be officially licensed). That, plus the cost gap between Intel and ARM processors, gives Android a good chance of winning the price game.
