Awww...the iPhone looks back saying, "I remember the first 100,000"

If the Android Market looks especially fat today, that's because it passed a milestone that it too important to not notice: there's now 100,000 apps packed in that little digital download store.

Here's what Google said in a post to one of its many official Twitter accounts today: "One hundred thousand apps in Android Market."

Short and sweet. Just how we like it.

The news comes just days after an unofficial report pegged the iPhone App Store as crossing the 300,000 app milestone.

Unlike the iPhone store, where we've seen numerous rags-to-riches stories and the emergence of some incredible talent, the Android Market has had a rather tepid reputation. A significantly larger proportion of Android apps are free, as compare to those developed for iPhones, and many of the big-name apps are simply ports from the iPhone.

It still has interest, though. It's easier to develop for and easier to get approved. And the Android audience is growing at a steady clip every day.

It's still pretty notable. Not every digital download platform garners enough support to reach 100,000 products, so congrats Android! Let's hope the next 100,000 generate even more buzz and excitement.
