NVIDIA powers car systems for Tesla

More automotive related news is coming out of CES this morning with NVIDIA announcing that it will be working with Tesla on the Model S. NVIDIA will provide Tesla with Tegra processors to run all the EVs infotainment, navigation, and instrument cluster systems.

The highlight of the infotainment system is the 17-inch touchscreen in the center console, which is the largest screen ever put into a car from the factory. The energy efficiency of the Tegra processor is very important in an EV because all of the power drawn by the vehicle equates to less miles that the car can drive.

The Model S' touchscreen offers navigation with live traffic, POI database and more. The climate control system is also touch based. The digital gauge cluster uses a 12.3-inch LCD and has advanced 3D just like the larger 17-inch screen.
