Can you smell it? The Verizon iPhone is around the corner. Yesterday Verizon sent out media invitations for an event on Jan. 11. The invite did not specify what the event is about, but now the WSJ reports that Verizon is indeed announcing the Verizon iPhone. Steve Jobs might make an appearance in New York at the Verizon event.
Usually Apple is announcing new products themselves, but if you look closely the Verizon iPhone is not a new product. It's just a CDMA version of the iPhone 4. What this means is that the iPhone is now not only available from AT&T. This is a big deal for the US consumers, but a normal picture now in other markets.
The sale of the Verizon iPhone is expected to launch on Feb 3 according to rumors about vacation block dates.
As mentioned yesterday, I actually would think twice about getting the Verizon iPhone at launch. We are expecting a new iPhone 5 in June. The iPhone 4 went on sale on June 24th last year. After owning the Verizon iPhone for 4 month there will be likely a new iPhone out there and you cannot upgrade without paying full price. Apple has kept a yearly upgrade cycle for the iPhone since the introduction of the original iPhone.
