Motorola Xoom Super Bowl Ad is ever more likely

The biggest weapon yet aimed at the Apple iPad is the upcoming Motorola Xoom tablet. The Xoom will run Android 3.0 aka Honeycomb. This week Motorola confirmed the Xoom to launch in February. Unlocked the Motorola Xoom has a $799.99 price-tag and packs the Tegra II chipset. It is likely that the 10.1-inch Xoom will be offered with a carrier contract at a subsidized price.

To break the iPad grip, Motorola needs besides a competive product also a huge marketing push. Last year in December we already reported about a rumor that Motorola is advertising an Android Tablet during the Super Bowl XLV. In early January Chad Ochocinco tweeted that he gets a Xoom to kick of the year. Chad Ochocinco plays for the Cincinnati Bengals and has been promoting Motorola already at the Super Bowl 2010 with the OCNN network. Ochocinco is a very "connected" NFL player. His Twitter account has over 1.5 million followers.

I also found out that the Maxim Super Bowl Party is sponsored by Motorola Xoom.

Together with the confirmed February launch date it is almost certain that Motorola and carrier partner Verizon will kick off the marketing for the Xoom on Super Bowl Sunday. Motorola was very secretive over their Super Bowl 2010 Ad. I expect not to hear much before the actual game day (Feb. 6) about the ad. Wiil it have a celebrity in it again?

I also expect that Motorola will have an elaborate social campaign attached to the Xoom Super Bowl ad.

Motorola Super Bowl Ad teaser released. The teaser video makes references the 1984 Apple Super Bowl Ad that introduced the Mac.

Just like last year, I4U News will be featuring again the Super Bowl for Geeks Guide. Of course the Super Bowl 2011 for Geeks Guide will be all about the Super Bowl Commercials and not the big game. The Super Bowl XLV will take place in the Dallas Cowboys stadium on February 6th 2011.
