Specifications

The Antique Jacket is made from real leather and comes in a light brown color only. The side of the case that is open is embossed with a design that looks like a lock. The case is compatible with the M-Edge e-Luminator book light and the interior is covered in a flannel material. The case measures 5.15" x 7.75" x 0.75" and it fits the latest generation Kindle. The Antique Jacket sells for $49.99 and it is available right now.

In Use

I really dig the idea of a case for the Kindle that looks like some sort of old book. The Antique Jacket makes the Kindle look like an old diary. The embossed lock on the right side of the case is interesting, but a bit strange. I guess the idea is to make it look like a diary with a lock.

This is definitely a more feminine looking case and my wife really likes it. the case has a pouch that you can slip the clip from the e-Luminator touch light into to secure it to the side of the eReader. That pocket is on the outside edge of the case and the light is small enough that it doesn't get in the way when you are using the Kindle.

The case has magnets in the flap to help hold the jacket open when you are reading so you don’t feel like you are constantly fighting the flap when you are using the Kindle with one hand. The mounting system used inside the case had to non-flexible corner holders on the bottom of the case and the two on the top are elastic straps. The Kindle goes in and is held snugly without any issues. You can move around with the Kindle in the Antique Jacket and not worry that the eReader is going to fall out.

I would have preferred the light pocket be on the inside so when you close the case it has a cleaner look with the light hidden inside the case rather than hanging on the outside. That said my wife is one of the pickiest people you will meet about the looks of things and she though the light was cool the way it hangs on the side. Considering most Kindle lights are on top the side is a better option.

The only downside I see to this case is that the leather it is made from is prone to scratches. I see things like that as character, but if you are the sort that wants the case to look brand new, you will need to be very careful with the leather exterior. The sample I have came out of the box with a few minor scratches already on the back.

Verdict

Pros

  • Good looking
  • Fits well
  • Light pocket

Cons

  • Leather scratches easily

Conclusion

The Antique Jacket is a very nice looking case with lots of functionality. If you worry about scratches just be careful with the Antique Jacket and it will look good for a long time.
