Toshiba Unveils New Business Notebooks

New notebooks!

Toshiba has unveiled a new line of notebook computers that are all aimed at the business user. The new machines fit into the Tecra and Portege families and have lots of cool features including impressive battery life. Toshiba says the new machines have been designed from the ground up with portability and durability in mind.

"Our new business laptops build on the success of our award-winning Portégé R700 ultraportable laptop, providing professionals what they need and want—the performance needed to handle demanding business tasks in lightweight and durable designs." said Carl Pinto, vice president of product development, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division. "We focused on delivering what our customers asked for by reducing weight, increasing battery life and without sacrificing performance."

Toshiba claims that the new Tecra R840 and the Portege R830 are the thinnest Toshiba business machines ever made. The notebooks are 25% thinner and 20% lighter than the predecessor the Tecra M11. The notebooks also have USB 3.0 ports, eSATA/USB combo ports, DisplayPort and HDMI outputs, ExpressCard slots, gigabit Ethernet, and lots more. The Tecra R840 series has a 14-inch LED backlit screen with HD resolution. It is the thinnest Tecra machine ever made. It can be optioned with Core i3, i5, and i7 processors and the battery life is up to 11 hours per charge when used with the SSD.

The Tecra R850 series has a 15.6-inch screen with HD resolution, a numeric keypad, Core i3, i5, or i7 processor options, and a battery life up to seven hours with the SSD option. The consumer version of these machines is the Portege R835 series starting at $899.99 with Core i3 or i5 processors, 4GB of RAM, and 640GB HDD. The consumer versions have no ExpressCard or dock capability. The Tecra R840 series starts at $899 and the R850 series starts at $879. The Portege R830 starts at $1049.
