Rumors about the release of a Retina Display iPad 3 are still not conclusive on release date.

Earlier in the year, even before the release of the iPad 2, rumors of the iPad 3 appeared and with a Fall release date. In recent months more rumors started to point to a 2012 release date of the iPad 3.

Most recently analyst Craig Berger from FBR Capital is seeing the iPad 3 in 2012 based on supply chain information. Today though, The Register runs another rumor report citing a source in UK's biggest Satellite Broadcaster saying that the iPad 3 would be released in September sporting a retina display.

As reported two weeks ago, the retina display for the iPad 3 would have a resolution of 2,048x1,536px.

I lean still towards the iPad 3 coming in 2012 giving the iPad 2 a product life of a year. Apple still has not caught up with the iPad 2 demand. Customers have to wait 1-2 weeks until their order ships from the Apple Store. Apple has to ramp up inventory for the crucial holiday season. The iOS 5 and iCloud release will accelerate iPad sales this fall. A new iPad 3 is just not feasible for Apple this year given the momentum of the iPad 2.
