Hardened plastic case offers protection with style

Specifications

The Skyline Rigid Flex Case from id America is an interesting case with a bunch of holes on the back. The holes let you see though to the iPhone underneath and the case comes in black, white, and pink colors. The pink case is only for the iPhone 4 on AT&T but the other two colors will work with AT&T or Verizon iPhone 4s apparently. The case is made from a stiffener thermoplastic.

In Use

The Skyline Rigid Flex Case is made from some sort of thermoplastic that is treated to be more ridged than the typical soft plastic case. The stiffness of the case doesn't rival that of hard plastic or metal cases, but it is much stiffer than a normal soft case made from silicone. The harder sides should provide more resistance to damage.

The flexibility of the case makes it easy to install and very snug fitting. I don't think you will see the same level of protection for this case as you would from a hard plastic or metal iPhone 4 case, but this will provide protection. The case also ships with protective scratch films for the front and back of the iPhone.

The films are the same somewhat stiff films I have seen before that needs no liquid for application. The harder design of the scratch films makes them prone to air bubbles. They can be removed easily and reinstalled though. The Skyline Rigid Flex Case sells for $29.99 in any color and they are all available right now. The case leaves all ports and controls open and you can dock the iPhone with this thin case installed with most speaker docks and clocks.

Verdict

Pros

  • Easy install
  • Good looking

Cons

  • May not protect as well as true hard case

Conclusion

The Skyline Rigid Flex Case is a very attractive case with scratch films that will keep your iPhone 4 looking good and safer from drops.
