Yesterday HP employees got a chance to buy the $99 TouchPad. If there are any left, than HP might already put them on sale today on the HP Store.

HP gave their 300,000 employees a chance to buy the 16GB TouchPad for $99 in the employee purchase program. As reported, the demand was so high that the servers of the HP Store broke down. HP hosts the employee store on the same servers as the public HP consumer store. HP has remained silent on when consumers can expect to get a chance to buy the $99 TouchPad on the HP Store. Now that HP employees got the first dip, HP should know how many units are left for consumers. We expect HP as early as today to offer the remaining stock on the HP Store.

During the night HP TouchPad deal hunters spotted the 16GB HP TouchPad for $94.05 on a store called NWIT. Immediately the store got pushed to its limits and pages loaded slow if at all. NWIT lists the FB454UT for $94.05 for some reason. Buyers tweeted that their orders got through eventually and that they got a confirmation email. If and why that store has TouchPad inventory is unclear. Is it a sign that other retailers will get also fresh TouchPad inventory. As reported the other day, OnSale got new TouchPads to fulfill earlier canceled orders.

Update 2:
NWIT is canceling orders. Looks like they oversold quite a bit.

Update 1:
Looks like HP employees can also order a TouchPad today. TechCrunch published another internal HP email. HP extended the purchase window because of the server issues yesterday. So at this point I do not expect HP to start offering $99 TouchPads to the public today.
