Amazon wants to buy Palm from HP?

Amazon said to be interested in webOS.

Two days ago Amazon unveiled their first tablet with the Kindle Fire. The tablet runs on a custom Android OS. MobileBeat reports now that a well-placed source told them that Amazon is interested buying Palm from HP.

First of all, I thought HP is hanging on to webOS. At least that was the official message. What does Amazon want with Palm OS now? Only explanation would be that they are not happy with their Android based Kindle OS and would consider an OS switch for their next generation of tablets. If Amazon wants to do that than this would be the saving moment for the webOS.

Palm's Jon Rubinstein is on the board of Amazon since late last year. This is of course supporting this rumor.
