iPad 3 Announcement rumored for Early March

Apple is supposed to unveil the new iPad 3 with Retina Display in the first week of March.

The Apple iPad 3 rumor mill has intensified over the last weeks. Leaked cases hint a larger battery, new screen and new cameras. All Things D reports that Apple plans to unveil the new iPad 3 in a media event rumored for first week of March.

The biggest feature of the iPad 3 is the Retina display. This rumor is around since a long time. The iPad 3 is supposed to have a resolution of 2,048x1,536px. No other device is actually offering a 9.7-inch screen with that high resolution on the market.

Besides the Retina screen the iPad 3 will have better cameras and more performance. The battery will be bigger, but that will not provide longer battery life than the iPad 2 as the new screen is likely needs more power. The iPad 3 is also supposed a bit thicker because of the larger battery.

Speculations about LTE support in the iPad 3 are also circulating. I am not sure if Apple is already jumping onto LTE in the first have of 2012. 9to5Mac is summarizing all speculations about the iPad 3 here.

It is not clear how soon after the announcement the iPad 3 would ship.

The Retina display would be a reason for me to upgrade from my iPad 2. I do not see any other feature that would motivate an upgrade. The iPad 2 works just fine.
