Samsung is the sole supplier

The hallmark feature of the new iPad is a high-resolution retina display that brings full HD quality to the small tablet. The screens have proven problematic to produce for LG Display Co and Sharp Corporation. According to Bloomberg, the screens from LG and Sharp didn't meat Apple's quality requirements and Apple went to Samsung for replacement.

Samsung is currently the only vendor for the iPad touchscreen and the deal is expected to be worth millions of dollars for Samsung over the course of the year. The deal drove Samsung shares up 2.4% in trading on the Korean market and comes despite long running legal disputes between Apple and Samsung.
