Apple is pushing their nano-SIM specification to make it the industry standard.

Apple is prepared to make their nano-SIM technology royalty-free if it becomes the standard says a new report on Foss Patents. Apple is fighting for their nano-SIM specification against the proposal from Motorola, RIM and Nokia. Foss Patents' Florian Mueller says that he has seen a letter from Apple to ETSI that Apple is granting royalty-free licenses to any Apple patents essential to nano-SIM.

There is another important meeting of ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) later this week that might finally take nano-SIM closer to become a reality. Apple likely plans to have nano-SIM in the new iPhone 5 scheduled for fall.
