Nintendo announced the Nintendo 3DS 3D portable game console yesterday.
Nintendo did not reveal very much about the Nintendo 3DS. The 3DS will have a 3D screen that can be used without glasses, it will be backward compatible and it will be released in the fiscal year ending March 2011.

Japan's Nikkei (subscription) reports that Nintendo also plans to add force feedback and motion control to the Nintendo 3DS.
Nikkei believes the screen to be not larger than 4-inches. Yesterday we argued that the 3D screens used in the 3DS could be based on the 3M 3D Film technology.

I still have my troubles to imagine a good 3D experience on a tiny screen. If Nintendo enables the console to be used as motion controller like the iPhone the 3D display needs to keep working from different angles.

Nintendo will unveil more details about the Nintendo 3DS on June 15th at the E3 2010. Let's hope Nintendo has Nintendo 3DS consoles to try out.
