Leaf can now power your home

Nissan Leaf owners in Japan will soon have the opportunity to purchase a new charger for their electric vehicles. The new charger is able to recharge the battery pack inside the Leaf to 80% capacity in only four hours. That makes the charger twice as fast as existing chargers on the market for the vehicle.

Even more interesting is that the new charger will allow the Leaf to use the power inside its battery pack to run your home in the event your power goes out. The charger and the Leaf's internal batteries can supply 6 kWh of electricity, which is enough for about for about two days of power for the typical home. The charger will sell for about $6000 when it hits Japan plus installation.
