Apple's move to replace the decade old 30-pin dock connector with a smaller 19-pin dock connector is 99% certain.

Reuters carries today long report about Apple switching to a new smaller dock connector in the upcoming iPhone 5. As reported earlier, the iPhone 5 is already in production according to supply chain sources.

According to Reuters Apple switches to a new connector because of the ability then to move the headset jack to the bottom of the iPhone 5. Other reports we have seen over the last months argued that the smaller dock connector is necessary to make room for a larger battery.

Whatever the reason is, it seems certain that the smaller dock connector is coming in the iPhone 5. This means that you need an adapter for your current iPhone docking accessories or you need to buy new ones. The Apple accessory makers already pop open the champaign in anticipation of the huge sales of new iPhone 5 gear.
