Printer uses special paper with dye crystals rather than ink

Hammacher Schlemmer has announced the launch of the new photo printer that uses a smartphone app and your existing Wi-Fi network to allow you to print photos wirelessly. The idea is that you can beam photographs over to the printer using the smartphone app, which is available for the iPhone and Android devices.

The printer sells for $219.95 and can create 4 x 6 borderless prints at 300 dpi resolution without using ink. The printer cartridge has special paper inside that has embedded yellow, magenta, and cyan dye crystals to produce borderless 4 x 6 prints in full color. Replacement printer cartridges are $24.95.
