O2 is providing the technology, and sponsoring the trial, of a pioneering asthma monitoring system that aims to improve significantly management of the condition in the UK.
E-San Ltd. solution uses an electronic peak flow meter connected to the xda Phone from O2. It is the first time that such mobile technology has been used in an asthma trial in the UK.
The phone is attached to a small electronic flow meter into which the user blows twice a day. The data is sent to a computer which analyses it and warns the patient's doctor by email if faltering respiration points to an impending asthma attack. The physician can then contact the patient to advise on any change in medication.
