A new acquisition rumor popped up in the UK yesterday. The London Evening Standard reports that Apple is rumored to buy ARM. Apple is ARM's biggest customer. The ARM CPUs are powering the iPhone and a lot of other smartphones.

From the outside it would make sense for Apple to buy ARM. Apple would become a full blown CPU maker, but they could have bought ARM a long time ago if they wanted.

Reuters mentions that ARM is also pretty expensive right now trading at 16 times estimated earnings.
ARM is since the iPhone launch a strategic partner for Apple.
