Next week, Archos, the French based pioneer in state-of-the-art hard drive-based MP3 and handheld video players, will release the Gmini 120 (MSRP: $249) hard drive MP3/WMA/WAV player through CompUSA and Circuit City retail outlets nationwide. Much like the MadPlayer, the Gmini series firmware can be upgraded through the web.

Consumers can purchase the basic unit and add the functions they want to create a totally personal player. The Gmini 120 player/recorder comes with a 20GB hard drive and can be upgraded to include:

- FM Radio recorder ($39.95)
- Voice Recorder ($29.95)
- Photo Wallet ($29.95)
- The Mad Jukebox Interactive Music Composer ($29.95)
