HandHeld Entertainment sent voluntary recall notices to owners of their ZVue personal video player. The ZVue plays video clips from prefabricated SD memory cards, and was released, as previously reported by I4U, in early December 2003.

According to the recall notice, some ZVue units "may have a defect that may result in the battery pack shorting out." Affected units may have shorter than expected battery life, and may cause the overheating or leaking of its four AA batteries as a result.

Consumers are encouraged to return their player whether it has the issue or not. HandHeld Entertainment expects to send replacement units immediately upon receipt of returned units.

Concerned ZVue owners should call HandHeld's customer service toll free at 1-866-426-3734 with questions about the recall.

A scan of the ZVue recall letter can be found at this web page, which describes the problem.
